2027 total solar eclipse in Tarifa
One of the most compelling mainland choices: very long totality, open coastal landscapes and strong travel appeal. Wind and road congestion are the operational risks.

Cloud risk and Plan B
Historical 2-August cloud signal is around 13% in Timeanddate. Tarifa is also exposed to strong Levante/Poniente winds, so tripod stability and blowing sand matter even under clear skies.
Getting there
Transport reality
Tarifa has no railway station. Main access is by road from Algeciras/Cádiz/Málaga. The N-340/A-48 corridor is the key vulnerability, so arriving the day before and avoiding same-morning repositioning is strongly preferable.
For a one-off event, optimise for robustness rather than theoretical travel time: arrive early, avoid roadside parking and expect temporary traffic restrictions.

Candidate viewing areas
These are planning candidates, not official 2027 viewing sites. Capacity, parking and access can change once local authorities publish eclipse-day arrangements.
Los Lances
Huge open beach environment with excellent sky exposure. Capacity is large, but vehicle access and parking can saturate early.
Valdevaqueros area
Very open landscape and iconic setting. Wind exposure is high; avoid assuming normal beach parking will be available.
Mirador del Estrecho area
Elevated perspective and memorable context, but limited roadside capacity makes it a poor choice without an official traffic plan.

Maximum convenience if you can walk to your viewing site.
Los Lances
Good balance between beach access and town services.
Algeciras backup
Usually more accommodation inventory, but requires a road move into Tarifa; only choose it with a robust early-morning transport plan.
